Teaching Trauma-Informed Yoga: Trauma, Yoga and the Physiology of Resilience

  • yogaview 2211 North Elston Avenue Chicago, IL, 60614 United States (map)

Healing from trauma is a nonlinear journey of the mind, body and soul and can be deeply supported through the holistic practice of yoga. Given the pervasive levels of trauma within our society, many people who attend public classes carry the residue of past and ongoing harms within their shape and may be more vulnerable to re-traumatization or triggers on the mat. Understanding what a trauma survivor is managing internally when participating in a somatic practice like yoga will enhance your ability to create a more inclusive space. When taught with a trauma-informed lens, yoga can increase a survivor’s embodied sense of safety, while refining their capacity to listen within. In this environment, trauma survivors have increased access to the healing power of yoga which may ultimately become a trusted, lifelong resource for resilience. Register at www.yogaview.com.
