Infusing Your Teaching with a Trauma-Informed Lens

  • The Bhaktishop 2500 SE 26th Avenue Portland, OR, 97202 United States (map)

Together we will explore important considerations for instructors who seek to bring a trauma-informed lens into their teaching while gaining greater awareness about emerging practices related to embodied healing in the trauma field. Utilizing research and trauma survivor testimonials, we will discuss how yoga can serve as both a resource to accommodate the physical, mental and spiritual impacts of trauma, as well as the potential risks for re-traumatization and how to best support students. Participants will gain an expanded awareness of how trauma shows up in their classes, tangible teaching tools that can be infused into any yoga environment, and further clarity as to why and how yoga offers optimal conditions for holistic trauma resolution. Molly will draw from personal insights as a survivor, yoga student and teacher, over a decade of medical and legal advocacy work in the anti-violence movement, research she has conducted on yoga for trauma healing, and her training in Somatic Experiencing. This workshop will include a trauma-informed yoga practice.
