Repairing the Wounds of Sexual Violence - Infusing Your Healing Arts Practice with a Trauma-Informed Lens

  • National College of Natural Medicine 49 Southwest Porter Street Portland, OR, 97201 United States (map)

The Breathe Network will host Repairing the Wounds of Sexual Violence – Infusing Your Healing Arts Practice with a Trauma-Informed Lens on Saturday, October 17th, from 9:30am – 1:30pm at the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. It will provide experiential education and training for healing arts practitioners that will enhance their understanding of the impacts of sexual violence and give them greater skill in working with the survivor population. This training will also prepare participants with the necessary sensitivity to become aligned with our organization and intentionally serve survivors by offering trauma-informed, healing support.

In addition to an overview of the definitions, statistics and impacts that sexual violence has on the body, mind and soul, members from our team of healing arts practitioners will share insights they have gained from their practice working with this population. They will offer recommendations and techniques for how to modify the delivery of specific modalities in order to enhance trauma-informed care and safety for survivors. Healing arts professionals will come away with greater skills, sensitivity and confidence to provide survivor-centered, trauma-informed care to those that they work with, ultimately creating the necessary physical and emotional safety to promote a survivor’s innate capacity to heal.

We designed our training to meet the needs of a variety of health and wellness fields, including yoga instructors, medical doctors, acupuncturists, chiropractors, social workers, midwives and obstetricians, massage therapists and more who work with survivors of sexual violence in a variety of settings. Ample time will be allotted for small and whole group discussion.
